I love heavy metal, hard rock etc.
Some songs have Satanic verses . I do not believe in that sometimes I just like solos and music rifs … I am a musician and it is hard to know if it is a sin listening to it

I don’t know if it’s sinful to listen to satanic lyrics, but why would you want to open yourself up to evil like that? I don’t know much anything about metal, but I would assume there’s plenty of it without those kind of lyrics.

I am new born catholic … it is just old habit and old songs … beside am musicians sometimes i play them . I know answer is 90% i feel bad since i become catholic each time i listen to it

You know since am new convert I am trying to validate each action i am doing since It is different now …

Welcome brother may the Lord help us starting this journey

It may not be a sin, but IMNAAHO something to avoid.

Saint Paul says we are to renew our minds, and that won’t happen with evil lyrics in music, particularly given the ability of music to get stuck in our heads!

Plato, IMS, said that “he who controls the music will control the next generation.”

There is plenty of “evil-free” metal out there!

I know exactly how you feel, eblude. I am a musician as well and I love a lot of music. However, since I’ve been taking my faith more seriously, the need to discern whether these are good songs to be listening to is present. For the most part, I’ve cut out music that has bad references or verses in it. I discerned that that was the best for me. And to be honest, after a couple days, I didn’t want to listen to that kind of music anymore. If it is the melodic part of the music that you life, you can always try to find and instrumental version! I’d say talk to a priest about it, and pray on it.

Thank you Time to clean my Music list Pandora and my Mp3s 🙂

I think there’s Catholic and/or Christian metal out there, if you’re into that sort of thing. 🤷

yeah but i love zepplin hendrix . pink floyd .:D. and old school stuff . they are legends

I see music as a type of gospel or antithesis thereof. It is always preaching some sort of message.

That message will have some effect on our hearts, I think.

Call me krazy, but I always think: would I do x, y, or z in Jesus presence? In truth he is in a veiled way always in our presence.

I can understand your problem. Once we like a certain type of music it remains a part of us - especially if it has been a part of our life at some times.

I have a particular weakness for The Rolling Stones and AC/DC. I enjoy the music, the energy and the show. I always enjoy anything of theirs which I catch on youtube.

However, in the room with my computer, right behind where I sit, is an image of the Mary, with the Immaculate Heart. If I’m watching, say “Let’s Spend the Night Together” (Rolling Stones) or “You Shook Me all Night Long” (AC/DC) I might ask myself, “What is Mary thinking?”. And then I turn it off.

With time (a long… time) my music tastes have changed. At first, I would force myself to avoid the worst of Rolling Stones and AC/DC, but with time I’ve found other music, and lost almost all interest.

There is still a problem that some good, strong songs, have one or two questionable lyrics. I usually go for the whole song in this case.

Still, there are some lines which should not be crossed, under any circumstances.

**Satanism **should just not be tampered with, and is more dangerous than sexual immorality or the other stupid stuff that is in some songs.

I would never listen to Black Sabbath under any circumstances. I don’t even know that other “Satanic Verses” are out there, but if it is overtly Satanic then don’t touch it. Remove it from your collection.

I’ve got Led Zeppelin IV in my collection. The Runes on the cover are occulty, but the music is not (AFAIK). I would never go closer to the occult or Satanism than that.

Yep, it’s true that your musical tastes change over time. I used to listen to Nirvana back in middle school. Not anymore do I listen to them. I used to listen to secular rap back in elementary school. I don’t anymore. And I really don’t care that I don’t listen to them anymore. Besides, Lecrae is light years ahead of Kanye and Jay-Z, in terms of music and in message (for those that don’t know, Lecrae is a rapper and, more importantly, a devout Christian. He’s my favorite rapper actually). So honestly, I really don’t want to listen or hear Kanye.

Don’t worry, eblude, you’ll find music that you like that you won’t object to.

I appreciate your understanding.

The problem is not that I do listen to it on purpose. but it is hard not to listen to tracks you been listening to for over 25 years/.

Sure i feel guilty each time I do . I hate new music “anything after 2000” It is **** of music “my opinion”

I mean each famous hard rock bank even fusion and progressive have some satanic tracks … Its basically everywhere . if not satanic the songs talk about getting wasted, drugs and sex. I love music but I Love lord and holy spirit , it is hard living with no music

since music is the topic today i heard ozzy singing Mama I am cooming home and it reminded me of me cooming home to Jesus and mother marry:) . I pray lord helping me to pick up right music

lyrics is twised but this part ring my ears
"Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come, but I ain’t the same

Mama, I’m coming home"

Thanks also for your reply.

It’s almost impossible to change ourselves overnight. It seems that God resists it with all His might!

Best wishes with it all.

But, perhaps, if I may recommend a first start - look at the stuff which is most overtly Satanic and remove it from your collection. Even if that seems hard to do, and even if you later “slip” and listen to it in some way.
