Is it ok to pray to the late pope john paul II?

He isn’t a saint yet, but I know he will be in the future, since we pray to saints for their intercession on our behalfs, how about someone like JPII who isn’t a saint yet, is it ok to pray to JPII to ask for his intercession?
 
Sure it is ok, just as we ask each other to pray for us.

He isn’t a* canonized *saint yet, so it would not be proper at this point to insert his name into a Litany of Saints used liturgically, or to name a church after him. This does not mean that he may not actually be a real saint yet, i.e. in heaven. We can certainly ask him to intercede for us just as we may ask any other person, living or deceased, to do for us.

We should also keep in mind that he may be in purgatory and pray for him. Don’t worry, If he is not our prayers will benefit others who are. Prayers for other people are never wasted.

What a great person to have taking your needs before our Father in heaven!!

I have prayed for his intercession before and feel that it helped to answer some prayers of mine.
 
Asking for the intercession of a deceased person is part of the process of canonization. There’s a whole office that collects reports of favors obtained through the person’s intercession. So go ahead and pray, and if you receive favors, look up the postulator for his cause and report them.

Great, because I feel like I know him personally and would love to pray for him and ask his intercession too. He was such a great guy. 😃
 
Why shouldn’t even people in purgatory pray for us? Actually, I don’t see why we shouldn’t pray to our parents, for example (though I would think if we want someone to pray for us, a saint’s prayer’s would generally be most effective.)
I think Pope John Paul and Mother Teresa were the great saints of the last century, and that praying to this pope could be a good idea.
Now that I think of it, for someone to be declared a saint, two miracles have to be perfomed through their intercession. That means that people prayed for each of these people for help before they were officially recognized as saints, and these saints did hear them. I expect that this is precisely what will happen in Pope John Paul’s case.
 
I often pray to my Dad who died 1year and a half ago. especially about family matters.My Dad was a long way from being a saint (believe me).

When He Died, I prayed and asked him to make up for all that he never gave to us (his family), especially when it came to the handing down of the faith to me and my 4 siblings. The day following this prayer to my Dad, every one of my siblings and their spouses, (all of whom had been away from the church for many years, bar 1) went and made a good confession and went to mass to recieve communion for our Dad. It was astounding how quickly my prayer was answered. My Mum joked “He’s done more for this family’s faith being 1 day dead, than I could my whole life!” She was pleased with the results.

Now if my dad (not a saint on earth) can answer prayers like that, how much more can Pope JPII do? (who was a saint on earth) 👍
