Is it ok to re-confess and already confessed sin?

I was living with my now husband and was four months pregnant when we married. I went to confession… and well I wish I had made a better one, I sort of fumbled through it with excruciating embarrassment, confession amnesia, and fumbling around for the right words.

Before the confession he was talking to my husband and myself about our wedding then he as us if we would like to go and confess, so I think he knew where we were coming from.

The gravity of how I was living then bothers me on how much it offended God. And the fact that I made a less than stellar confession bothers me.

Should I re-confess this. I feel I have to make it up to God some how, for how much I offended him.

Please be assured that forgiveness ultimately is the prerogative of God. It depends not so much on us as on God’s love and mercy. Your imperfect confession does not negate that you did confess your sins and that God did forgive them. Confession is not so much a legal transaction as it is one of a Father to His children, the importance is our repentance and God’s mercy rather than formula. Even if we make the “perfect confession” we still can never truly “make up” to God for all of our sins, that is why we need the Cross.
I invite you to trust in God’s mercy and the efficacy of the sacraments. However, if you still feel the need to re-confess these past sins you are certainly free to do so.
