Is it ok to read Thomas Merton's books?

I used to like reading Thomas Merton’s books a lot. Now that I just read about his history and how he spoke “against” the Catholic Church and our faith. I am confuse to whether I should still read his book and believe in his ways of thinking. Please help me to know what exactly is the Church’s view on Merton and should his books be banned from a Catholic readers?
