I’m an athlete who is not sexually active. Is it morally acceptable for me to use the birth control pill to suppress my menstrual cycle for long periods of time? It really gets in the way of many of my activities.

Hi,

Since you are not using the pill to contracept, but to allow yourself more time for athletic activity, the Church would not forbid such use outright. However, there is more to be considered. The pill can produce a number of negative effects on one’s health–from cancer to heart disease. One ought to seriously consider whether convenience is worth such risk.
