I fell and committed a mortal sin the other day and there’s not confession until Saturday. Is it ok for me to leave the house (like to go to the store) before I go to confession on Saturday? I feel guilty even leaving the house to go to the store before confession.

Why don’t you call your priest and set an appt. earlier than Sat.? Most priests are fine with that.
Failing that, I don’t see why you shouldn’t even go to the store…

Could you call your parish office and see if there’s a priest available today?
You don’t necessarily have to wait until the “scheduled” time for general confessions…

If not, you don’t need to be concerned about leaving the house. Ask for forgiveness sincerely in prayer with the intention of going to confession as soon as you can… and then be sure to go!
But in worst-case situations, your heart’s intentions of wanting to go to confession are known by God… so be at peace.

If we all followed that, nothing would get done. We are all sinners, we all neee God’s mercy. Continue on with you daily life, trying your best not to sin and make it to confession as soon as you have the chance.

I agree with MM. Plus, Jesus’ death on the cross wasn’t for us to walk around feeling afraid. Jesus told His followers ‘do not be afraid’ the most out of anything He ever said to them–that is recorded, that we know of. He wouldn’t want you feeling wrought with guilt and shame, when your true intentions are to go to confession as soon as you possibly can. Please be kind to yourself…you matter to God. He loves you–just make time for confession, and be not afraid.

I think that you are afraid to leave the house because of the mortal sin that you’ve committed. You are afraid that if something happens to you till Saturday when you can go to confession that you will not go to heaven.

God knows, as stated in one of the earlier replies, that you intend to go to confession on Saturday, he knows that you are truly sorry for your grave sin. Be at peace and know that he knows your intentions. For now, ask God to forgive you for what you have done. Then when Saturday comes go to confession.

I agree with this as well. If everyone called to schedule a confession appointment with a priest every time one fell into sin, the priests would get nothing else done. I’ve often reflected on how fortunate we are–at least in my parish–to have scheduled confession available not only every Saturday, but daily before Mass. There are places in the world where one would have to wait months to see a priest.

Of course it’s OK. If you are wanting to stay home in case something would happen which would take your life, like you were to get into a car crash or something and die before you get to confession, remember, you will die when it’s your time whether you were in a crash on the way to the store, or you stayed home and a tree fell on your house. So go on out, live your life, and “be not afraid.” Don’t let the devil paralyze you with fear until you can get to confession. God knows that you are sorry in your heart for your mortal sin, and that you are intending to confess it ASAP.
