Look at the bigger picture; what good can possible come from supporting this type of thing (suggestive music, TV, movies and etc.)? Just walk away from it all. It is hard at first but before long you won’t believe how little you miss it and how much control it had over your life.
I think what Thankatroop12 meant is is it a sin to
listen to a song that has a sexually explicit music video that comes with it i
f you do not watch the video.
I’m going to assume it’s a case where the video is explicit, but the music isn’t. Yes, they do exist, and many times I hear a song that is otherwise morally acceptable (ex. “Love on Top” by Beyonce; it’s a nice song and nothing objectionable in it really and the video would’ve been fine otherwise if it weren’t for her unnecessarily revealing clothes). I listen to a lot of electronic dance music, many of which have minimal lyrics and never really explicit. However their corresponding music videos tend to be.
So what to make of these situations? Well, if you don’t watch the music video and the song is morally fine (does not cause you to sin), then I wouldn’t say it’s a sin. If you do watch the music video and the song reminds you of the video, you might want to stay away from that song for a while, maybe until after you forget about the video.
When it comes down to
supporting these songs… sigh. I don’t know. I really would not have a problem with supporting the songs if they’re good, however our culture tends to want to sexualize everything. Good songs are no exception.
Sorry for rambling, but I never get a chance to do this a lot.
