Hello,

I’m not much of a liturgical expert. But, is it okay for a priest to use a regular glass cup to contain the consecrated wine? I thought they could only use a chalice to consecrate the wine in. My new pastor is using a regular glass cup, he is also adding Holding hands durring the Lord’s prayer. I don’t like that. What should I do?

You should write a nice letter to him explaining that you understand that both the GIRM (328-329, 332) and RS prohibit the use of common cups and they also prohibit the use of glass or any other breakable material. Holding hands during the Lord’s prayer is not prohibited but must not be mandated either. He cannot indicate in any way that it is expected and cannot “invite” people to hold hands during the Mass.

#152 of the GIRM requires that the priest introduce the Lord’s with his hands joined and then extended with palms up.

**Thanks guys. You guys are super. 👍 God bless you. **

**Now to start drafting that letter…:hmmm: **

What does the abreviation RS stand for?

Redemptionis Sacramentum - Instruction on the Eucharist

Published to clarify some of the confusion with the GIRM by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
