Is it okay for Catholic laity to Street preach?

I wouldn’t recommend it if you are inexperienced since chances are it will come off as tacky and people don’t want anything to do with that.

How would one gain experience at this kind of activity without actually doing it?

I’d recommend finding someone who is experienced and asking for help.

Gotcha, thanks. So the idea would be for the inexperienced not to engage in street preaching alone. I was under the impression that @VanitasVanitatum advised the OP to refrain from doing it at all. My bad.

I think it was Penn Jillette, militant atheist well versed in Scripture, who said something like after studying what Christianity states as the endgame of this life, that you as a Christian must probably hate him if you don’t preach the Faith to him considering how unspeakably horrible the afterlife is for the damned.

I myself won’t go as far as to occupy a street corner. But I’ll try my best to jump at any opportunity to profess the faith to an unbeliever and engage in that conversation.

Approach is everything. Evangelization can be as simple as passing out water bottles before a parade like I have seen done.

Street preaching is essentially evangelization, not homiletics, so conviction might count for more than formal training. I preached a number of sermons as a lay minister in an Anglican setting, but that was quite formal, for an audience that had a good foundation in Scripture and theology.
You might look for a chapter of St. Paul Street? I accompanied them a couple of times. I found the group I worked with tended to reach lapsed or non-attending Catholics…or fundamentalist Protestants who wanted to argue, though.

Adding to this, is preaching online the same as street preaching? Should the laity be preaching the faith online?

We are always supposed to be sharing the faith. The laity are the shock-troopers of the faith in the world. It’s actually to the shepherds trouble if the lay faithful are not motivated to share their faith in the world. The priests primarily confirm us in the faith so that we share our faith.
