Someone I know is considering using the pill to balance her hormones. She is 18 years old. Her periods have never been on a regular cycle. She has Dysmenorrhea, which sometimes causes severe pains during menstruation. Lately her hormones have caused her to act somewhat erratically, which has resulted in strained relationships with people she is close to. She has never been sexually active, and does not plan to be until marriage.
Doctors have told her use of the pill would likely make her cycles more regular, reduce pains during menstruation, and result in more consistent behavior due to regular hormone levels. Testimonies from friends of hers who have recently started using the pill have supported the doctors’ statements.
Would it be okay for her to use birth control - more specifically the pill - to balance her hormones?
