Is it okay that I had my uterus removed?

I know that having tubes tied is a sin. My uterus was removed due to a high number of tumors, medical complications they were presenting, and not for contraception. I was confused when reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church, but was assured by the priest that this medical procedure was okay. Now I am wondering if I got bad advice. I am also wondering if it was a sin that after the procedure, I was relieved that God had made this procedure necessary and took away the chance of more children for me.

Regarding your second question, you cannot control your feelings but you can seek to avoid dwelling on them or approving them, and you can ask God for the grace to have your feelings be ordered to what you know is right (that to be left sterile is an objective tragedy and not a reason for relief or rejoicing). This doesn’t mean that you must grieve not to be able to have children; only that you should seek to fulfill your continuing vocation to motherhood in some other way, such as spiritual maternity through the religious life or secular mentoring.
