Is it okay to allow a scapular to become dirty to any degree?

Certainly. As with any piece of clothing, a scapular will pick up some dirt in the course of daily living. Wash it if it gets dirty, or replace it if the dirt cannot be removed.
A scapular is a miniature religious habit. Habits get dirty and get washed and eventually replaced. I’ve seen some religious in mighty dirty habits. No problem.

Yup. They’re meant to be worn and they’re going to get a lot of wear since they’ll likely be right next to your skin. We live in a tropical climate for most of the year and mine gets pretty sweaty.
After about a year mine is starting to fray and will probably need to be replaced before too long. But they’re definitely meant to be worn!

Mine gets dirty. In fact, I just retrieved mine from the mesh bag I washed it in with my laundry this morning. Plopped back on my shoulders and ready to go.
