I would like to know if it’s okay to buy stuff from Ebay and Etsy.

Etsy and EBay have many different vendors that sell on their sites. I bought a beautiful white gold cross that I never take off on Etsy from a vendor in Greece. He even engraved it for me: “His mercy endures forever.” Just avoid the things you don’t want to see.

Are “male enhancements” immoral? Surely it depends how they are used. Of course, it may be immoral if the product makes false claims or contains dangerous ingredients.

Yes, I can see that you might object to some of the packaging.

You cant buy birth control either but I’ll bet you go to the grocery store soon.

There was a post floating around facebook that Etsy sells consecrated hosts, but I don’t believe everything I see on facebook.

No offense, but I do not understand this kind of post or many other posts like this on on the forum.
Should we buy from this company? Should we attend a Baptist wedding? Is chewing gum in Church a mortal sin? Good grief, Charlie Brown!
It’s like, should we get a ruling from The Vatican before we take our next step forward?
Some things are just common sense. Then other things seem like non-sense.
Sorry, if I sound a little annoyed. ☹️
But as Popeye the Sailor once said, “Thats all I can stands, cuz I cant stands no more.” 😁

Enter pedant mode…

A closer analogy than Walmart etc. to eBay and Etsy would be a particularly huge mall. They are just sites that allow (relatively) small independent sellers to get the advantages of Internet sales without having to set up and maintain their own eCommerce site. So you are not buying from Etsy, you are buying from Joe’s Tchotchke Shop who pays Etsy a cut to facilitate the transaction.

Often it’s scrupulosity but it can also be misleading advice from someone. People often complain about the number of ques ions on sexual topics. Considering the amount of information out there that is contrary to Catholic teaching it’s no wonder that Catholics and would-be Catholics are blind-sided by Catholic teaching when they stumble upon it.

I’m glad I have other options when I have questions because, in spite of the forum’s name, getting answers here is usually unpleasant.

Some things are just common sense.
I agree with you that common sense would take care of at least half the questions on this forum.
Some people unfortunately don’t have good judgment.
Some are very young and don’t have parents doing a good job of guiding them.
Some are new Catholics afraid of making a wrong move.
Some suffer from scruples, a mental disorder where they worry they are sinning all the time.

And unfortunately, there are vocal Catholics who will tell people they are committing a sin if they buy from a store that happens to sell one or two immoral items, or if the store donates to Planned Parenthood.

We must be patient with people, even when we want to tell them to stop being ridiculous. I know how you feel though. A couple years back we had a thread from someone worrying he had committed gluttony by eating a whole sandwich for lunch instead of a half sandwich. I wanted to just shake some sense into the person but obviously he had scruples and wasn’t thinking normally.

You are correct in your assessment. Ut let’s not forget the other end of the spectrum. Those who refuse to call sin sin and who think they are the exception to the rule because gosh, it’s just soooooo harrrrd…

Yeah. “I love the Catholic Church but it wouldn’t let me do this thing that I think God would approve of so I joined the Episcopal Church instead because anything goes over there.”
Why they even bother to post here is a mystery to me.

It seems to be an almost uniquely Catholic trait to be so scrupulous… I honestly don’t see it anywhere in my life except on this site.

As Fr. Edward just said on another thread, Internet forums like this tend to draw a higher percentage of scrupulous people because they are sitting around worrying and come here looking for reassurance. We try to discourage them from posting because it’s not healthy for them.

I don’t think the average Catholic is scrupulous. Probably the opposite to be honest.
