Is it okay to decorate for Halloween?

My priest told the kids decorating with scary monsters, trick or treating, and dressing up like a monster, or even a devil does not cause a problem, unless of course you actually want to be a monster, or a devil and that is in your heart. He said it is in fun, and celebration of our christian life, and as long as we understand how the holiday got started and what it’s about we are “good”. Let me ask you something…do you all put up Christmas decorations in celebration of Christ’s life? Do you give and receive presents? As long as you understand, and teach your children to understand the meaning behind the holiday, and set that example by going to mass and praying, teaching by example you can put up whatever decorations you want for Halloween.

I wonder if the whole “black cat sacrifices” are more hype than truth? Just like the razor blade in the candy bar scares. I’ve never heard of anyone having their black cat snatched on Halloween, have you?
Once, several years ago, a number of mutilated cat corpses were found in the dumpster of a corner grocery about three blocks from our house at the time. We were always very careful to keep our cats indoors until November.

On the topic of the poll–I don’t really like Halloween decorations at all, and am thoroughly disconcerted by how it’s mushroomed into a ‘Halloween season’ with decorations going up late September/early (as in the first weekend) October.

Of course, we don’t celebrate Halloween at all, but that’s because we don’t enjoy it and would rather spend the evening watching videos together.

I detest the whole thing. Begging kids at the door to upset the dog, the whole witchs, vampires, ghost and skeleton shebang. Yucch! I like the All Saints, decorating. I have two black cats and I never let them out two days before or after 10/31. There are crazy and mean people out there. My husband and I post a note on the door that we do not have any candy and then go visit the in-laws - with the dog. So far :clapping: , nothing bad has happened to our house.

Its just a harmless holiday for kids to dress up and get some candy. Since Jesus loved kids so much, I’m sure He doesn’t have a problem with them having a night of fun within reason. Some people on here seem like grumps 😉

I love to decorate but it is more a fall theme.
Fall wreath, pretty coloured leaves, Pumpkin lights, pumpkin carved, scarecrow, rafia decorations, …
