Unless there are extremely serious reasons for doing so – and those reasons should be vetted first by a balanced, orthodox priest to see if they are indeed legitimate and serious – for a man to divorce the woman who is pregnant with his child is despicable. It doesn’t matter whether the marriage was presided at by the town mayor. Irregularities in the marriage can be fixed, and the marriage convalidated by the Church. What matters is that an honorable man does not abandon the mother of his child, especially when she is in the midst of pregnancy with that child.
