My family is Catholic and I want to donate my body to Science, a family member is upset that there will not be a body for the funeral or for a cemetary plot so one can visit, by donating my body to science am I going against Catholic Doctrine? Our debate surrounds “the body was created in His image and will be resurrected to the soul and its our tabernacle” or is it “ashes to ahses, dust to dust, and we will be risen, no matter where/how our bodies our scattered”? Please help as our family is divided on this issue?

Steve,

The following links should assist you in better understanding the Catholic Church’s teaching on donating our bodies to science - as well as organ donation - and the subsequent funeral. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by this link, please [contact Catholic Answers (http://www.catholic.com/home/contact.asp) directly.**
