Is it okay to have chicken on Lenten Fridays?

I was once an altar server years ago. One Holy Week, I ate lunch with our parish priest and he had chicken on Good Friday. He told me it’s fowl. Now my daughters have been asking me, “Dad, can we eat chicken on Fridays of Lent?”
 
While your priest was correct that chicken is fowl, he was incorrect to eat it on Good Friday or any other day on which the Church requires abstinence from meat. The only meat ordinarily allowed on a day of abstinence is fish.
