Is it okay to kiss your pet?

Well, yes. Cats like to travel under bushes and lick themselves to clean. There is also the issue of fleas. Sometimes, they like to roll in dirt.

I really like cats, by the way.

What a cat might pick up under a bush is inconsequential. Cats lick all over. They lick their butts and other parts of themselves, as do dogs. That, methinks, should be more of a concern than what they might pick up outside.

I’ve always wondered this myself. We are infertile and unable to have children so our pets are extra special to us. So, yes they get lots of attention, including hugs and kisses on the top of their heads or cheeks. Is this okay? Yeah, its an odd question, but I tend to be scrupulous.

Boy, I sure hope there’s nothing wrong. When I get home from work each day, I kiss my wife first, the I give each of the cats a peck on the top of the head before petting them. They wait for me to come home, and they love the attention. I’m not an animal zealot or anything. I just don’t see anything wrong with affection to your pets. Who is the injured party here?

It’s actually far more unsanitary for your pet than for you. The human mouth is far dirtier.

I kiss my pig all the time, but usually on the jowls or forehead. Sometimes on the nose.

My dog loves to lick, lick, lick. Even one of my cats “grooms” me, licking my hair and sometimes my skin. I must say my pets “kiss” me far more often than I do them.

One of my cats is either trying to kill me or show me he really loves me, though. About 3 am every morning, he plops all 15 pounds of himself right in front of my face, puts his face right next to mine, and PURRS loudly. He has done this ever since my DH died about a month ago.

One of my cats loves to smell my breath (poor cat!) and has gone so far as to stick his nose in my mouth and try to chew on my lip, the funny fellow, so I know what you mean.

One of my cats is either trying to kill me or show me he really loves me, though. About 3 am every morning, he plops all 15 pounds of himself right in front of my face, puts his face right next to mine, and PURRS loudly. He has done this ever since my DH died about a month ago.

My condolences for the loss of your husband. :console: I’m sure your cat is showing affection, exhibiting his loss of his friend by loving you up in this way. They miss us when we’re gone. My dh has had to go on several business trips, taking him away for a week at a time, each trip. Our littlest cat, Gaby, who is particularly attached to dh misses sitting with him on the couch. He keeps looking where he usually sits and then at me as if to say, “Where is he?” Cats and dogs definitely have feelings for us, don’t they?

I used to kiss my widdle ratties. And since they were inside ratties they’d be cleaner than the average cat or dog.

Plus, they’re incredibly clever, so they learnt to “kiss” back. And its a lot less slobbery to get a little ratty tounge on your nose than it is a pooch.

Of course, all my little ratties have passed away now. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get more.

I, too, offer my condolences for your loss.

My cats have done the same thing to me. It’s kind of scary when it happens in the middle of the night though! My older cat used to bite my hair when she wanted food. She would do this to my mother as well.

Catholic90, do you think it is possible that your kitty is doing this morning at your husbands beckoning? I have heard many stories of deceased loved ones sending signs to their significant others.
