Not aiming at anyone in particular here, but in general, would it be considered a sin for a Catholic official to perform a civil gay marriage? Keep it civil, please. Thanks.
Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures.
The Holy See makes it clear that homosexuality is a violation of natural law and that, certainly, it is not for marriage. Marriage is flat-out between a man and a woman who intend to produce offspring naturally, just as God intended it.Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. **Under no circumstances can they be approved. **(CCC 2357)
By perform, you mean officiate? No a Catholic cannot do so.Not aiming at anyone in particular here, but in general, would it be considered a sin for a Catholic official to perform a civil gay marriage? Keep it civil, please. Thanks.
A Catholic judge…a Catholic ship’s captain…Since when can Catholic laity perform civil weddings? Enlighten me, please. Does the Pope know about this? hmm.

Are you sure?On the other hand, I have been present at a number of civil weddings which have been performed by Catholic laity and clergy.
There are plenty of Catholics, both lay and clergy, that put their person feelings above the consistent teachings of the Church. Given we are talking about California, I am sure that there are huge percentages of Catholics that have no problem flipping the bird at the Church in order to “do what is right” by their gay friends and coworkers. Most Catholics seem to just see the Church as an advisory board and blithely ignore Her whenever they feel like. Are you sure?
I doubt that.
Any lay person can perform a civil wedding. One gets a permit from the county (usually for a day) and then can legally perform the wedding. Also, if a person is a judge, a captain, a court clerk, or a justice of the peace, they can automatically perform any wedding.Since when can Catholic laity perform civil weddings? That this s even a question saddens me.Not aiming at anyone in particular here, but in general, would it be considered a sin for a Catholic official to perform a civil gay marriage? Keep it civil, please. Thanks.
Its a sin, but its not an excommunicable offense. Not aiming at anyone in particular here, but in general, would it be considered a sin for a Catholic official to perform a civil gay marriage? Keep it civil, please. Thanks.
You are citing uncommon occurances here. Yes, a Catholic ship’s captain can conduct a civil marriage, but probably would not unless there were an outstanding reason to do so. It still would not be a Catholic-sacramental union, but there may be the expectation that it would become one, PDQ.A Catholic judge…a Catholic ship’s captain…
OK first I’d like to state I have nothing against homosexuals and it is none of my business how they choose to live their life but what gets on my nerves is some gay rights activists and the media have beef with the church stating…the church is homophic, an outdated church and this love is love agenda! God loves all his children but all his children dont agree with God or His church…it’s as simple as that. I think gay marriage is wrong and against Catholic teaching which comes from Jesus Himself. Not aiming at anyone in particular here, but in general, would it be considered a sin for a Catholic official to perform a civil gay marriage?
