Is it okay to pray for chickens to die?

My husband is selling his house in Oregon. He has a contrary neighbor who doesn’t mow her yard, has a bunch of cats and dogs, and now has added chickens to her menagerie. The cats and dogs aren’t too bad, but the chickens stink and make a lot of noise. The community allows three chickens in a small back yard. Someone was about to make an offer on the house until she went for a second look on a warm day. She heard and smelled the chickens, which quickly changed her mind.

Would it be a sin to pray for her chickens to die?

I wouldn’t pray for the chickens to die…it isn’t THEIR fault. If the woman is only allowed 3 chickens and she has more than that, then she is breaking the law. Likewise, there is a limit to the number of dogs and cats one person can have. In many states if you have more 5 or more dogs you need a kennel license. If the smell is that bad and if the woman is violating the law, then you need to call the local authorities and/or the humane society. That would be the first thing I would do.

I agree with Veronica. This is more an issue for the local authorities about a nuisance than for divine intervention. (Besides, dead chickens may smell even worse!)

However, what you really want is for you husband’s house to sell. Pray for that to happen. Don’t tell God how to do it. He may surprise you.

Chickens do not stink…she’s just not taking care of them. Maybe offer to help her? How is she containing them? If she has only three chickens and you can smell them, she is not managing their upkeep. As for the noise, what noise is it? Does she have a rooster?

I think you should just thank God she doesn’t have guineas or a peacock. Now those will give you a new definition for noisy 😃

What about crows that use the cars in the parking lot of the local parish as “target practice” while people are at Mass? :bigyikes: Not making this up! 😃

Thought of mentioning to the parish Boy Scout leader that it’d be a good chance for the Scouts to have BB guns and get in some target practice of a different kind, LOL (unfortunately, probably too close to civilization for that, and too hard to supervise that many kids). Then the Holy Name Society could have a fundraiser “Crow Noodle Soup Dinner” afterward . . .😛

I wouldn’t pray for the chickens to die. I would pray that your house will sell despite the next-door zoo.

However, I guess you can always hold out hope that the chickens are being raised for dinner and not as pets.

I agree with everyone else on this one. Praying for the chickens to die really is just directing your frustration in the wrong direction. I would pray that the house can sell in spite of the neighbor’s mess of a yard. Further, I would offer prayers for that neighbor as well.

Saint Joseph, we ask for your intercession. Please pray that this house might sell!

Is it okay for me to laugh the idea of you “praying for chickens to die?”
😃

I hope so, because I am doing it to. I think I would be praying that I don’t get caught with them between her yard and my frying pan.👍

I LOVE fried chicken.

I think I know what I’m having for dinner tonight. Fried chicken sounds awsome right now.

To the OP: I would suggest calling animal control and making a complaint about the smell and the animals. Quite honestly your neighbor sounds like a hoarder from what you described and the only way to help a hoarder is to call the proper authorities and to pray for her.

We have been praying for months for the house to sell. The neighbor has the number of chickens allowed by city ordinance. They squawk and stink. No one will spend $200,000 to live next door to noisy, smelly chickens. This neighbor is a cranky old lady who has rebuffed all friendly gestures made in her direction. She has a large tree that had roots growing under the concrete driveway of the house. It made the concrete buckle up and crack. The only way to keep it from buckling the concrete as it goes into the garage was to cut off all the roots. This caused the tree to lean toward my husband’s house. The arborist said that the tree will eventually fall on my husband’s house. She wont allow the tree to be cut down, so something had to be added to her deed and the deed of the house we’re selling that states that when the tree falls on the house, the owner of her house will pay for our house.:bigyikes:

Maybe that’s what I should be praying for.🤷 Maybe I should pray for the tree to fall.

Anyway, she is not going to get rid of the chickens, so I was wondering if it would be a sin to pray for her chickens to die.

I prefer my chickens grilled.😃

Even if her chickens die, there is nothing to stop her from getting more chickens. Are you sure she doesn’t have more dogs and cats than the law allows? Then you could get animal control involved. They may then find that the inside of her house has unacceptable living conditions and action will have to be taken. Or honestly I’d call nuisance abatement anyway and complain about the smell and the filth. They may come out and give her a citation. Meanwhile, pray both for this woman and for a solution to your problem. If something is happening to us(or not happening) then we must accept it as God’s Will. God either ordains something or permits it for a greater purpose. What that purpose is you may not know until much later (or even until the afterlife!) Perhaps this woman needs your prayers desperately and that’s why she’s playing such a big part in your life right now. Perhaps God is teaching you a lesson in patience. Also, I’d go out of my way to be kind to this woman. Perhaps take her a plate of cookies? You may be the only “Jesus” she will ever know. Sorry that probably isn’t what you wanted to hear, and I know I’d be upset and frustrated too. But we must remember that God is in control and sees the larger picture.
