Is it okay to pray to God to ask him to help the team you're rooting for to win the Super Bowl?

Is it okay to pray to God to ask him to help the team you’re rooting for to win the Super Bowl? Or should prayer be reserved for more important matters?

Probably a waste of time. Someone that likes the other team is praying for them and that cancels your prayer out. 😜

As the old adage goes, God does not get involved in Sports. His mom on the other hand…

You sure can. Like everything else, God might say no. I was praying for the Indians in the last moments of the last Series game with the Cubs and Slider saw me while down in a dugout and was praying along with me at the bottom of the stairs. God unfortunately favored Chicago that time. (I’m sure my Baptist sister-in-law was praying for the Cubs.)

I know every religious organization in Philadelphia seemed to be praying for the Eagles last year, and one pastor had an “Eagles Mass”. That was one way to get people to church. I went and had to park blocks away.

I think God is just pleased that you’re praying to him. He likes all the teams and all the sports and sport can bring folk together.

You know…

Leo Tolstoy had a theological debate about something like this in War and Peace…

He really thought it was a sin to pray that that an individual was the first to catch the fox in a hunt. (FYI: the fox didn’t actually die in that chapter). Perhaps the Super Bowl is similar…just saying…🤔 😋

Eh, Tolstoy didn’t believe Jesus was the Son of God or that he performed miracles, so I’m not taking his advice on anything Christian-related.

I think that is right actually…still I really like him as an author (😮 off topic)

This concept is actually an age old debate…; however, I’m not quite sure it is important or has significance…other than for fun…which is ok…

2 years ago I wanted to pray that the Browns would win some games but Fr. David who used to post here said that would be tempting God 😂
But God finally heard our prayers and sent us Baker Mayfield and got rid of Hue Jackson.

What happens if, say, your team happens to be Notre Dame, and Notre Dame is playing against Boston College…and a BC fan prays for his team…someone is going to be disappointed!

Psalm 2:4a might play out!

When JFK was President he once attended a game between two colleges that had both given him honorary degrees and I think they were both Catholic too. When asked which team he was supporting, he said he would cheer for one team and pray for the other.

Prayers should be reserved for more non worldly important matters but if any Football Team has big charitable causes for the betterment of the world and bear fruits in the Kingdom of God, I am sure he will listen to that kind of prayers.
