Is it okay to pray to Orthodox Saints?

A friend of mine started an quasi-ecumenical prayer group between a few Catholic and Greek Orthodox friends. The current saint on the list this week is the patron of one of our Greek Orthodox friends, Elizabeth of Russia. However Elizabeth’s not recognized as a saint by our Church. Is it alright to ask for an intercession for our friend from her?
