Is it okay to wear a rosary?

Just recently I prayed a prayer asking for guidance to stay away from my evil doings, also to comfort me with tough situations. Also I prayed for others to be happy and stuff like that. I feel that wearing a Rosary in school would encourage me to do better. I’ve gone through many times were I pray for something but I don’t get it answered because I get temptations and disobey God. I want to give it another try.

I remember that last time I wore a Rosary to school, my friend, who’s a Catholic, said that it is bad. His reasoning is that the Youth Leader for our Church said it is. I simply told him that it is a sign of my faith.

Also in some websites (wiki) said that it’s disrespectful.

Previously the Roman Catholic Church has stated that wearing of the rosary around the neck by both Christian believers and non-believers is very disrespectful.

“What about monks or nuns?” I thought.

So basically, is there an official view from the Church on wearing rosaries?
