Is it part of God's plan for us to have more people?

I ask this because this seems like a common theme in the bible:

“I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies.” (Genesis 22:17)

Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. (Psalm 127:3)

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. (Genesis 28:14)

Also an observation is that countries with more people seem to have a lot more problems than those countries with smaller populations. I’m talking about some of the European countries like the Nordic countries and countries in Oceania and comparing them to a lot of the Asian and African countries. Not that I have anything against the more populated countries, in fact I think it’s good to have more people, it’s just an observation. Like others have stated the tables will probably turn going into the future, countries with larger and more developing populations can only continue to develop. Whereas the future of countries with smaller and more developed populations is uncertain.

I remember seeing - on EWTN - how overpopulation is a myth -
This ‘commercial’ said everyone could live in Texas, with a house and yard.
That everyone could fit comfortable.
It stopped me dead in my tracks. On EWTN !

President Trump thinks kids out of wedlock is not good. He took the heat.
China - had horrible ways of trying to keep birth rates down.
Muslims, by the millions, are going into other countries.

Human thought, influenced by sin: Children are bad, abortion is good.

Christian thought: Life is good. marriage and children are blessed.

You know, it is amazing how nobody ever worries about there being too many trees. Only humans.

The birthrate is almost below the replacement level, because too many people have been taught to hate themselves and family, and to fear the future.

There is a population problem and it’s scary. The aged so outnumber children that the future economies of western societies may not be able to support them.

Exactly the future can only get better for the large population, developing countries.

My father in his late 80’s has always said Australia needs at least 50 million.
As of Friday March 23rd 2018 we have just 24,682,595 based on the latest United Nations figure.
People create jobs.

I like using brutal honesty because it leaves no doubts and awkward questions. That said what I lack in charity I make for in cold hard facts, your feels can heal if I hurt them, I’m aiming for your ignorance not your pride.

If I hit your pride then consider not hiding behind it.

Now on to the point:

YOU CANNOT HAVE OVER POPULATION!

Back in the old days you had as many children as possible because let’s be realistic kids like Tiny Tim were even shorter lived. Stronger kids joined the military and died horribly that way.

As technology progressed (here’s looking at you penicillin) life expectancy and survival became less an issue. Now families have the option to be more conservative with reproductive power and not worry so much that what energy they invest in little Tommy will be wasted if he gets the flu.

Birth rates in first would country degress as life increases. As technology spreads so too does quality of life.

So unless the zombies come or nuclear war I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s a self correcting system.

I imagine a big family would be a sign of success. Not sure about that.

But, I really don’t think population is the reason for the differences in those countries…

It does seem like everyone’s trying to get into Texas these days, now that you mention it. 😎

Comparing Europe to Africa to determine the effects of population size on prosperity is not valid. The reason that European countries are more prosperous than African countries is because their population is, on average, substantially more intelligent. Africa was no better off when its population was small.

The question of population is multi-faceted. As others have mentioned, the entire world’s population could comfortably fit in Texas, so there’s no lack of space. OTOH, we don’t have a very large overabundance of food, so that could be a problem.

On a more immediate level, contraception poses an enormous threat even to the material well being of societies. It is causing underpopulation in Europe, America, Canada, and East Asia, and it decreases average intelligence (because smart people are more likely to use it) everywhere.
