The Mass I have attended for years has been consistantly leaving this out.
Consistant enough that this past week, when it was said by a visiting Bishop, people stumbled through this unfamiliar prayer.
In fact, I cannot remember a time when it was said last with our normal parish priest.
The explanation we were provided is that it had to do with the liturgical calendar and the year that we were in.
Not knowing any better, I accepted this.
However this past week a visiting bishop said Mass, and the penitential rite was said.
So now I am disbelieving the first explanation tossed out…and wondering if I am being shorted the full benefit of a Mass said properly.
Anyone?
