Is it possible for a demon to possess a computer and assume a cyberspace identity?

Since it’s possible for a demon to possess a person wouldn’t it be just as easy or even easier for one to possess a computer. In other words, could some of the lewd, nasty, and evil comments we often see on the internet sometimes be written by a demon who has assumed a cyberspace identity and who is pretending to be a human?

Why not. But usually, he operates through corrupt souls which are human enough. 🤷

There’s little to no consequence for being an anonymous but nasty to people on the Internet. Without such consequences there are some individuals that will troll for the sake of it. Some behaviour patterns would be considered pathological if they were practiced face to face (not to mention illegal in some contexts. Once a person’s real identity is attached to their behaviour there is motivation to turn down the nastiness a notch.

All that being said it is also possible that some of the people you encounter on the Internet do really have psychological problems.

I agree 100% with ThinkingSapien. A computor is only a machine. The possibility of a Demon infesting one exists only in Science Fiction, not in reality. There has to be a human being involved for there to be evil on the internet. However, there is always the possibility of a demonically posessed person using a computor.
As for all the nasty remarks, these exist only because of the anonymous nature of the internet. If these people could be found out and be faced with penalties, their behavior would soon stop. Like all bullies, these people are not possessed by demons, they are just crass and craven cowards!

If it was ever true that a demon perpetrated poltergeist activity, then yes, otherwise no.

People can act as Satan’s hands in doing evil in cyberspace.

Daemons (alternate spelling of demons) are very common in computers. You may have several operating in the background on your own machine right now.

I agree. But it wasn’t the question. The question concerned whether a demon could have the power to manipulate cyberspace in such a way as would enable them to directly create user accounts on websites and directly post comments. In other words, can a demon hack into a computer, and is it therefore possible that we could ever be communicating with a demon online without realizing it?

I don’t think that Satan has that power, but Holy Scripture and Church teachings are silent on the topic. 🙂

Is there any evidence that demons can influence physical world directly?

They seem to be restricted to influencing humans.

Yes, I would say a demon could manipulate a computer. When a demon takes control of a person, it is called “possession.” When a demon takes control of a house or object, it is called “infestation.”

In an Ignatius Insight article, Fr. Gabriele Amorth wrote: *"Diabolic infestation. Infestations affect houses, things, or animals.“In Matt Baglio’s book The Rite, on which the movie is based and follows the formation of the exorcist Fr. Gary Thomas, it reads on page 47: Infestation is the presence of demonic activity in a location or object, such as a 'haunted house.”
The various kinds of phenomena that can occur in this situation are vast and include…interruption of electric current or malfunction of electronic devices…*Baglio’s sources are many throughout the book. My review can be read here. 😉

Anyway, I don’t see why a computer would be off-limits to the devil since it has a certain power over this terrestrial world until the Second Coming.

Thanks for that info. Very interesting.
