Is it possible that the Heliocentric system is wrong and the Geocentric right?************

No, it is not possible.

****Yes, it is possible.

******Geocentric: ****The earth is the center of the universe. **

Heliocentric: The sun is the center of the universe.

Can anyone out there prove “directly” that the earth revolves around the sun and that the entire universe does not revolve around the earth?

Is your “proof” observable, physical, natural, repeatable, unambiguous and comprehensive void of hearsay, popular, “expert” or majority opinion(s), superficial analogies, appeals to “simplicity,” “apologies” to Galileo, or any other indirect means of persuasion which do not qualify as scientific proof? WasHeraclides of Pontus right?

Note: Mathematically speaking, several astronomers have said, one could make Jupiter the center of the universe and work out a mathematical model in which all the motions of the heavenly bodies are accounted for, but a mathematical model is not necessarily reality (which is precisely the problem with modern science, since much of it is mere mathematical hypothesis, not necessarily physical reality).

Had your question been “Is it possible that the geocentric system is right?”, I would have answered yes. However, the possibility that it would be right and the heliocentric system be wrong is not very likely at all. As you stated, a mathematical model can be created to make basically *any *heavenly body the center of the universe. Why? Because of General Relativity…there is no center point. Space is expanding at the same rate in all directions, which means that anything could be the “center” along with everything else.

I think the important part of this is to be centric! Now, I’ve heard discussion, from both sides, whether to be helio- or geo- brings one to a fuller sense of the universe. Note that Albert Einstein said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible - but not simpler.” So, being centric means that one has made the matter simple, without losing the enormous ramifications and propensities of centrism. Whether helio- or geo- well, as it is said, “that’s just the cherry on the pudding.”👍

The how about “Christocentric”? Christ’s incarnation and supreme sacrifice happened on Earth. Therefore, it is the center of the universe whether physical reality reflects this or not.

I think you need to expand your options to include “they could both be wrong”.

It depends on what “the center” is. Is it the center relative to the origin of the (a) big-bang? Center of mass?

Surely, if the universe is expanding from a center caused by the big bang, then there are some constellations and star systems that are older than others. The ones on the outer ring of the explosion would be cooling and dying out sooner than those still nearer the center. According to the latest findings, the universe is expanding with no sign of ever falling back on itself, which means that our system will fly even farther away from its neighboring systems until all of the systems simply run out of energy. That seems to prove a heliocentric form for our star system not a geocentric form in which the Earth is the center of the universe.

Movement in space is relative. If there were a single object in space and nothing else, you would not be able to determine whether or not the “single” object was moving. We know objects in space are moving because their positions change relative to other objects. They are either moving closer too or further away from other objects. This however does not prove that Heliocentric system is correct or that the Geocentric wrong? Physics and math increase the probability that the Heliocentric system “might be” correct but that is based on our own understanding of time and space.

Where is the center? One would have to know were the universe started and where it ends and all of its movements in between, from the very beginning, to know where the center is. We do not know where the universe is “expanding” from. Scientist can only detect the relative motion of different objects over a very short period of time.

If we consider the “Prime Mover” theory and apply it to this argument, then anything is possible, including the Geocentric theory. It’s hard to except God (the Prime Mover) and reconcile that with “science” as we know it. But then again, how do you get something from nothing and how do you explain Mathew 26:26? Since I believe in God, I think anything is possible.

Della, how would you apply the "Prime Mover"Theorem to this argument?

God Bless!

You can’t say without defining what you mean by “center”.

There isn’t a measurable physical property that I can name that would put the earth or the sun at the center of the known physical universe. Certainly not gravity, as gravity can be demonstrated to correspond to mass, and we are not at the universal center of mass.

Well, maybe the generation of radio waves that correspond to vapid entertainment. That’s it! We’re the center of the universe when it comes to “unintelligent intelligence”. There is no other source of a physical phenomenon that you could demonstrate to be both that intelligent and that stupid. Everything else in the universe that appears to have intelligent design looks like the work of God.

How’s that?

Have you guys gotten the Bong out for the MIT reunion or what?

I’m just mad cause Purdue was the best I could do.

Cal. No bong, no reunion. But that’s just me.
And I have a friend who chose Purdue over Harvard, BTW.
It happens. Who knew?

Better get this over with before the bong comes out, or this will degenerate into digressions about the cosmic significance of the word “WOW”.

(Maybe we should invite someone from Carlton, for some haikus.)

Once we can figure out the exact boundaries of the solar system, it may be possible to calculate the exact center of the solar system. This is assuming, of course, that the shape of the solar system is regular and that the size and shape don’t fluctuate.

The same thing may also be said about the universe.

I always thought that neither our Sun nor the Earth are the center of the universe, in the physical definition anyway. From what little I’ve read, our solar system is in the outer/center of the Milky Way Galaxy and only God knows how many galaxies here are in existance. I only know of three, myself. It kind of makes you marvel that God would go to such great extents to create the perfect conditions to raise human life. Kinda makes you feel special, huh?

Mila is right. Neither the earth nor the sun is the center of the universe. If one accepts the big bang theory, you could think of the visible universe as the 3-dimensional SURFACE of an expanding (4-dimensional) balloon, with the galaxies scattered evenly on that expanding surface. A spherical surface has no center.

In theory, one could set out on a spaceflight in a straight direction, traversing the universe in one direction and returning to your starting point. Like circumnavigating a globe.

Big Bang theorist do not claim that the universe is expanding from the center of the bang, but that the universe is expanding everywhere.
