Is it possible that the reason I can't seem to let go of my faith is due to the fact that it's just what I was always taught?

You said it, you stated it, you brought up the term

Brainwashing. You explain what you mean.

And just because you know some Catholics, that doesn’t make it true…

The op did not use that term.

I’m not sure if I believe in God. He has never spoken to me and sure allows a lot of suffering to occur in the world.
When Jesus was giving the bread of life discourse to His disciples, here they are face to face with the one who in the beginning, spoke and all that is came into existence. And they said to His face what He told them to believe was not acceptable. And they left Him never to follow Him after that. Jn 6:35-66

Jesus knew before giving the discourse, they didn’t believe. He knew they would leave. He still gave them a chance… but forces no one to believe. Free will ya know.

Without faith, which is a gift from God, no one can believe. Suggestion, ask Jesus for faith and mean it. Not just once but over and over ask Him. See what happens

Friend I was addressing the OP not you.
I also put the word in ditto marks so please put your lynching rope back in the pickup truck and be civil.

I await the OPs response as to whether I have well articulated his concerns. You are welcome to listen in.

That won’t fly , You used the word brainwashing, not the OP. You insult the Catholic faith with that statement.

Do you think that if you were always taught another faith you would be as loyal? If so, then it is your psychology. It ias a powerful thing. Or is it the guilt and fear of leaving that has been instilled?

You insult the Catholic faith with that statement.
Why do you find it difficult to discuss the possibility that being brought up a cultural Catholic may rob a person of some psychological freedoms akin to what is often described as “brainwashing” in other communal belief systems.
The more so given that some of our experienced fellow faithful Catholics have privately come to this conclusion

Please refrain from attacking other Catholic members just because a hypothetic scenario makes you feel insecure and uncomfortable.
Would you have similarly scapegoated members who suggested significant numbers of the clergy are child abusers or enablers and that includes bishops and Cardinals. Would you have considered such truth seekers who wanted to reasonably air such a hypothesis also insulters of our faith simply for raising this possibility as worthy of a polite public discussion?

If it should not be done on a Catholic forum where would you suggest such unpalatable hypotheses be discussed?
Or perhaps you could yourself refrain from reading this topic if it grieves you so?
