Is it possible to prove that a good God exists?

Like any proof, it would require some assumptions and how you define ‘good’ and ‘God’.

For Christians, God is the source that defines what is ‘good’. So, God, therefore, is inherently good, being the source.

Not without using personal experiences interpreted to reveal a loving God.

Well, I see a good God in people around me, when they are loving.

We can go through Aquinas’s proof of God, and his deductions from that that God has to be eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, and perfectly good, and all that,

but it has more meaning to us to consider a good person and how a good person could exist.

Father Donoughty speaks to reporters in Empress Theresa:
“Let’s hear atheists explain a miracle like Theresa! She is a very bright girl but she has a simple personality. She knows there is evil in the world. It doesn’t affect her. She has simple needs. She doesn’t seek what is not hers. She accepts what God gives her. She has borne a great burden for eight years with no complaints. She is the sanest person I know. We will see if a good girl with no unreasonable ambitions can do good in the world. Someone who wants to do God’s will has an unconquerable ally. Theresa can’t be defeated. I have hope she succeeds. I have hope she is a benevolent power. I hope.”

Do you also see an evil god when surrounded by evil and terrible events?

Evil and terrible events are not designed to be constructive and could not be caused by a God creating and sustaining the universe. He’d be working against himself.

Good people have something to do with a good God who had to make them,
since animals would not do anything for others except what their reflexes require.

The book of Job made it pretty clear that negative events were only permitted by his control.

The cause of all things is God right?
It depends on what you mean by cause. Evil is not directly caused by God, because God is the source of all good. God gave humans free will to choose for or against his will. It is this choosing against God’s will that is what we call evil. So, God didn’t create evil, but he created humans who do evil (acts that lack God’s goodness). Just as darkness is the absence of light, evil is the absence of God’s goodness.

Call what ever you like. The creator would be in charge of what has been created. Change the names pretend or ignore the issues by hiding them behind working. The fact of it is, if it were created it would be the responsibility of the creator.

Are parents responsible for the actions of their adult children?

Evil has no substantial existence. It is not created.

This is old stuff.
I can see that this thread is just going to be another rehash of the same old skeptic’s arguments.
The over all picture will be lost as usual.

Also the question isn’t whether a god exists or where evil comes from. It was can you prove a good god exists.

Is it possible to prove that a good God exists?
YES YES. He is watching you right now. He formed you as a person. Anyway, this is the right place to seek help and welcome to CATHOLIC-ANSWERS COMMUNITY.
