Is it proper to go up for a blessing when not receiving Communion?

I was not accusing any one particular… I was answering all who felt a Blessing at Communion was wrong.
So you insult us and call us "cafeteria catholics???
Nice, very nice:rolleyes:
.
Please remember, that Jesus once stood up to Traditionalists and was persecuted for it.
So now your a “tradionalist”?

Until a higher authority says a blessing during communion is acceptable I stand by my choice…the communion line is for those recieving communion!

May I ask what the word “communion” means to you?

Second question what do you do with children during communion services? It is clear until the age of reason they can not receive, so do you advise mothers to temporarily abandon these children to the pew? Or should they refrain from communion unless hubby is available to trade off supervision?

…Do you feel left out because you are a cradle Catholic? …
cradle catholics make up the brunt of bad Catholics so do not let the term bother you

Traditions change all the time within the Catholic Church, why are some so resistant to that change? …
we have to be careful about the use of the word “tradition” as it has a special meaning in Catholism concerning pre-bible. However as an FYI the current form of Mass began in ~1965 before that Mass was very different
…I don’t want Protestant ideas to enter the Catholic Church any more than the next person but this is not Protestant… no one there goes for a Blessing.
This is funny ask your RCIA group to teach about where Protestants come from

what about just remaining in your pew and making An Act of
Spiritual Communion
My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
I suggested that, but I guess it’s not good enough.
I was bed ridden with migraines for more than 3 weeks. I was unable to go to Confession when I went to Mass. I spent Communion in my pew, in Spiritual Communion. I did the same the last few weeks because I have not been able to get to Confession (my church offers it before Mass, but I missed it the last few times), and again, I made a Spiritual Communion.

What is such a practice good enough for me, but not for you (all inclusive you)? What makes you (all inclusive you) so special that you (all inclusive you) approach for a blessing to feel “included” while I remain in my pew in Spiritual Communion?

My youngest comes with me but does not recieve a blessing. He just stands beside me 🙂

As cradle Catholics, you can not understand how hard it is to have to wait to receive Our Lord. It is very hard, try to think about how hard it would be for you to be denied Communion for a few weeks.
It is an ache for Him that is lessened somewhat by being able to stand before the Priest with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

For you to FEEL that it should be denied is very cruel.
You are WRONG…I have been in Mortal sin at least 2 Times in the past few years and I STAYED IN THE PEW. I am a cradle Catholic. SO I DO UNDERSTAND. My priest is a canon lawyer he says it is a COMMUNION LINE NOT A BLESSING LINE.

What do you think the pope would do…I have a Hunch he has never had a person come up with their arms crossed.

Which leads to another question…DO no Catholics who are guilty of Mortal sin stay in the pew for for the blessing?

What if 100 people show up at mass? and 98 go up for a blessing…would this be a situation where an EMHC might have been avoided…It is an innovation that did not come from the Magisterium and it should be stopped. going up for a blessing is absolutely pointless. It is a meaningless addition to a sacred event. Like I said when I am an EMHC you will not get a blessing from me…and I wont be doing anything wrong either.

'um so you do not practice leaving them in the pew, but you are sure it is the thing others should do. Sounds like treating your neighbor different than yourself?

When a stranger appears before you in line how do YOU decide if they should be allowed in the line?

What are you talking about?
I go and recieve communion my kids dont get a blessing…they just stand next to me or when they where younger they where in my arms .
How is this treating my neighbor different then myself???

Whats the line for again? You do realize that historically there was no such thing as a line…right? In fact people went up when they felt ready. Ever been to Europe? There are lots of places where there is no “line”.

**Communion line is for those recieving communion.**IF you want a blessing wait a few mintues and the Priest blesses the whole congregation 🙂

So which is it, for only those recieving or those plus others?

I am so confused as to where you are taking this…

Should parents leave their children unattended in the pew while they go up and receive? Cause THAT makes sense…

what he is trying to say is that if you can bring your young kids on the communion line (mind you they do not get a blessing–they are just to young to be left alone in the pew) then why cant someone else that is not getting communion come on line (so they can get a blessing) . COmparing apples to oranges if you ask me;)

I understood what you meant, I had no idea where TR was going…

I’ll take this to mean there would be a problem if you answered the question. I have seen the line be for everybody. That has been the case most of my life; it is nice to see the community participate in Mass. I am sorry to hear you do not get to see that. Please ask your Priest why Jesus included Judas in the communion at the last supper; I am curios what his answer is. To answer your questions: No I have not been to Europe nor do I plan to go. I am wondering if you understand European practice is not the “standard” by which Catholicism works. Lastly do you realize in your argument you have argued for the purity of the line and non-existence of the line both? So which is correct to you a pure line or no line?

BTW what do they do in Europe when the person “feels ready” but the concentration has not yet occurred? And do some leave after receiving? I should think that makes for a short do it yourself form of Mass.

Would your underage children have not been other?
nope 😃 communion line is for those recieving communion…not Blessingsand here i thought that this thread was about blessings in the communion line…silly me:eek:
