Is it prudent to go to Mass during corona outbreak?

Lots of prudence needed here. I say the following being an ancient, immune compromised, diabetic , pneumonia-prone parishioner.

If you wear gloves; if you wear a good mask; if you touch no one and do not allow them to touch you; if you can find a place to sit that is well away from others, then - maybe - go. Remember that we are required to receive communion only once per year - during the Easter season.

Many archdioceses are cancelling masses - the Seattle Archdiocese has cancelled all public masses and closed their schools for at least two weeks.

Bottom line: no one here can tell you to go or not go. It is judgment. It is prudence.

Well, my company has been telling everyone to work from home unless their job requires coming to the office.

It’s a highly infectious disease that has no known cure or vaccine and with a mortality rate far exceeding the seasonal flu. For instance, in South Korea, which has a low death rate, the death rate is still eight times higher than the flu. The infectiousness would be enough to cause worry, but when you consider the relatively high mortality rate, especially among the elderly, and the lack of a cure then it’s easy to see why it’s getting the coverage it is. Even if most people will be fine, it’s not worth dismissing the concerns.

(None of this is to say stop going to Mass just because of worry. Wait for a dispensation, which it seems OP has now.)

He does say that if he goes he is waiting in the back or staying away from everyone.

I have an auto immune and I will not be attending. But if he attends and gets sick, he will bring it home to me.

His university just cancelled in person classes and everything will be on line.

Quoting myself, but wanted to say that my son was just excused. So he will not be going. We plan to have a time Saturday night or Sunday substituting prayer and readings.
