Is it really that hard to live a good moral life?
God didn’t ask much of us. He told us to do the examination of conscience, confess our sins and attend Mass and recieve Communion.
I can understand if people do not go to Mass as they are non-Catholic but we have Romans 2:15.
We do have a conscience so the Law is given to us all.
Why is it difficult for us to live a good moral life.
If the only natural thing to do is examin our consciences and confess them why don’t we just do that?
Why do people live their lives the unnatural way?
St Paul said he struggled to live a good moral life. I struggle. We all struggle.
Even if we, as St Paul, have the Church as a help we still fail.

Depends on your view of the doctrine of original sin and how you define obedience to the Ten Commandments. Lutherans for example take a more complete view of what is meant by the doctrine of original sin as well as the meaning of the Ten Commandments. If you read through the Small Catechism and assess your ability to live up to the Ten Commandments, you would see that we fall far short and it is only through Christ that we are saved.

You know, this is a big complex answer.
I just wonder why someone dropped their gum on the ground for me to step on. The garbage is like right there. Even this small gesture of love your neighbor is neglected. We can’t even do that.

I’d say the biggest issue is pride. People want to do what they want to do. They don’t want God–or anyone–standing in the way of their pleasure and power. They don’t want to worship anyone or obey any laws, especially those that stand in the way of self-interest. Many have faulty or no religious upbringing, but even religious folk, obviously, can get badly misdirected through pride. Once people ignore God and turn to themselves, their consciences are darkened. The devil’s great ploy is to convince such people he doesn’t exist and that they are therefore “good” people.

I used to think it was very hard, unattainable. But at some point I started on the road to perfect contrition and once you get there, there is no turning back. There will always be temptations and distractions but the Lord always helps the faithful. So his words are true: ’ For my yoke is easy , and my burden light’.

Because we need sanctifying grace, and to cooperate with it, to remain free from mortal sin. This is due to the lack of the state of sanctifying grace and the concupiscence that we inherit at conception.
