I am recently engaged, and will be getting married soon. But living my life in the dark for so long, I have decided to take confirmation classes, become baptized and also have my daughter baptized as well. My question is this. I was told by a couple that tried to get married in the Catholic church 30 years ago, that he was to deny his son from a previous marriage. While neither one of us have had a previous marriage, we both have children from previous relationships. While I know that my daughter was born from a sinful relationship, will I have to deny her in order to get married in the church? It would break my heart if this was true.😦

Not true. Catholic Teaching is that all of Children are a gift from God and have done nothing wrong, no matter how they were conceived. The Catholic position is that all children deserve love and dignity.

Whoever told you that clearly misunderstood what was said.

No no no. Whomever told you that was mistaken.

The Church want’s you to love your children, and hers as well.

This is as untrue today as it was 30 years ago, 300 years ago, and 2000 years ago.
While I know that my daughter was born from a sinful relationship, will I have to deny her in order to get married in the church?
Honestly, why on earth would you believe something so outrageous?

I never heard of any such teaching even when researching former canon law on marriage. You have a 30 year old recollection, or one sided version of such., not any authorotative statement.

If you have a question about your current family situation, ask the priest. Everyone’s situation is unique.

welcome home, you made my day.

I don’t really have anything original to add beyond agreeing with all the previous posters and saying, welcome to the family! Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! God bless you and your beautiful blended family!

Peace and Grace,
Joy

No, they are still your children and the church wants you to love them. The person who told you that must have been mixing up the fact that the Church would say the children were not conceived in a “valid relationship”, meaning you can get married because you were never in a valid marriage previously.
