So for those of you who don’t know, Discord is an application and networking platform, meant for people of all sorts (particularly gamers) to join servers with different text and voice channels. Just see it as social media with different groups.
Now, I’ve asked myself this question many times, and I don’t think it could be that scandalous, but I would like to hear the advice of fellow Catholics.
The server is the official fan discord of a popular show that I watch. Nothing bad there.
But things get antsy with its members sometimes, most of the active server members are LGBT+ or identify as “non-binary”, and promotion of such sentiments are rampant in the server, even in the mod team, in fact the server still carries its “Pride Month” icon as of today.
They have an affiliated server that specializes in roleplay that I left a few months back out of fear of scandal there too, since their mod team there has “Gay” as part of the name of their team. Their server, other than that fact, and the behaviors I mentioned before, was pretty nice, but that fear of scandal has prevented me from rejoining.
Of course, I don’t participate in the promotion of these behaviors, nor do I show approval for them. I’m in the server mostly to interact with fellow fans and admire the (mostly) wonderful fan-works they create there.
I even ran into trouble a few times with the mods about my sentiments, admittedly I was being difficult at times but they let me stay and it’s sorted out. The mods know about my beliefs, but unfortunately, a vast majority of the 1000+ person server doesn’t. And it’s those people that concern me.
After causing the mods so much trouble I wanted to stay for a new reason: to prove to the mods that us Catholics don’t hate them, that we are there for them.
I just want to feel assured. I’m not being scandalous in any way by being an active member in this server am I? Nor by rejoining the other one?
I also wanted to put this out there for a potential conversation that could be sparked from this matter.
