Is it silly to feel bad about wanting to make a confession appointment?

I can’t go to confession at the usual time because it’s too late in the day. The best option I can see if to make an appointment for a confession after the last morning mass of the day. If possible, I don’t know. I don’t really want to do this but it seems like EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY there is something going on and the only confession offered without appointment is from 3:30-4:30, not to mention that my dad just said that he doesn’t want me to be out on my bike past 3 o clock.
Have you ever scheduled a confession before? I feel really weird, I’m kind of new to confession, my parish, and Catholicism all at once…but I know I really need to do this because I have no idea when I’ll be avaliable to go at the usual time.
Bite the bullet and go, I suppose…yeah?

I always go to confession by appointment.

It is perfectly natural for people to do. Please don’t let your hesitation keep you from the beauty of the sacrament of reconciliation

No, it is not silly, it is important. Please speak to your Priest and explain your difficulty so that he can suggest some solutions and ensure that you are able to receive this important sacrament. Many of us have received this sacrament outside the normal set aside times when the need arose and the priest was available, so you are not the first and will not be the last person who needs to book an appointment.

:blessyou:

It may be a little scary, but not silly at all. Just call the priest and make an appointment, just like for a dental check up or hair cut. It will be fine. 🙂

For me an “appointment” is simply walking up to a priest and asking if he can hear my confession. Sometimes they’re busy but if they can they will hear it. Only time I make it to a regularly scheduled confession is if I happen to be a few minutes early for mass (not likely) or if it’s offered during mass.

Oftentimes, I’m busy during the scheduled confession times (Saturday from 4-4:45). However, I regularly attend a Wednesday evening mass, and I can usually get there about a half hour early. So, if I need to go to confession (and I very often do) I just go up to the priest and ask if he can hear my confession - and he has always said yes. You can call and make an appointment, but I recommend the before mass approach - just make sure you’re there plenty early so as to not delay or unfairly disrupt the priest, but with confession being used as little as it is these days, most priests are more than happy to be able to assist a soul on their way to salvation.

It is not a bad thing to make an appointment for Confession if need be. Myself I prefer to show during the scheduled times.
