I am a traditional Roman Catholic and for the past year, I have worked for a social services organization that falls under the Uniting Church. I work as an administration clerk. I have consulted a Priest about this before on whether it was wrong and he basically said to me in a kind manner “you tell me” and he did advise it may be best for me to seek other means of employment if possible.

I do somehow feel that by being there I am contributing to the strength of a false church despite some wonderful work they do for the community.

What do you think?

I reckon your priest was responding to how your own conscience is guiding you. If you’re still unsure on how to proceed you should consult the priest and discuss the details with him further.

I think you’re fine. Simply working for a certain organization doesn’t equal an endorsement of everything they do. A lot of people work in private sector employment and I can garuantee you that they don’t always agree with the things their companies do.

If all you’re doing is helping with day to day administration concerns I don’t see how you’d be engaging in sin. All you’re doing is providing a skill set to an organization.

Uniting Church
Seems their website does not allow searches (or I could not find it), however if you google “Uniting Churches of Australia” and topics like sola scriptura, abortion, etc. you will find downloadable position papers.

I think that reading those papers will help you understand the group you are publicly aligning yourself with. If your conscience then speaks, listen.

Some Protestant churches are actively engaged in combating Catholicism, but others are not. I have no idea where the Uniting Church fits in here – I had never heard of it until this moment – but I think that is the place to look for the answer to your question

I think it’s always best to give our talents to a Catholic organization, if possible. But it’s not always possible, so, so long as this work isn’t directly attacking or contradicting the Faith I’d think there’s no harm in it.
