In reference to the question I was wondering if it was sinful to attend bars or nite clubs as a christian. Sometimes at bars or nite clubs some people proceed in dirty dancing, drinking alcoholic beverages, and often music is played with lyrics that sometimes do not reflect christian values. Hence, I am pondering if being in such an atmosphere is indeed sinful.

Sometimes I am often asked by friends to attend a bar or nite club and I am often in conflict internally wether or not I should join as a christian because 1.) I am concerned for my spirituel well-being by exposing myself to such an atmosphere and 2.) just wondering if wanting or acutrally going to a nite club or bar is sinful.

I am aware often some Christians or Protestants I know of say it is not appropriate for a christians to be in bars or night clubs because it opens oneself up to an evil enviornement, the enivorment often promots evil,it is also often a place filled with backsliders in the faith and sinners.

However, I wanted to know if there is any Catholic Chruch teachings concerning visiting bars or nite clubs.

Also if there are other opinions, comments or thoughtful answers concerning this question that may not be directly associated with Catholic Church teachings feel free to post as well.

well, if you are concerned, then don’t go. There is no official teaching about that (lol), but there is a teaching about conscience. If your conscience warns you against it, it would be a sin to disobey.

Well, hopefully where you live there are some decent places you can go. You could try and find out about that, or go once to see if you’re comfortable there. As for alcohol, the Catholic Church teaches that drinking alcohol in moderation - like Jesus - is not a sin, just don’t drink to get drunk. Go in Christ, and maybe you’ll even help someone get saved 🙂

You just described what is going on in bars and night clubs… drinking alcohol, dancing, and socializing often in order to pick up a short physical encounter. Do you have any intention of doing any of these things? If yes, you are going the right place. If not, then dont go.
Why would you go to a place where you will feel bad inside your soul all the time because you see people all around you who are lost spiritually and engaging in behaviour that is unhealthy and missing the mark completely?
What is it in there that you want to explore? You seek to have reasonable conversations with your friends about politics, religion, the world situation and how to save it? do you think thats plausible in an environment like that?
Are you looking for a good catholic spouse there? If you see a nice girl there do you think she will have a lot in common with you? (as for me, the high esteem I would hold a Catholic man in would decrease much if I accidentally saw him enter a night club)
My last boyfriend had a past of going alot to places like that… I cringe when I think about it and I never wanted to hear about his experiences from that time of his life.
Do you think you can go into any situation and not be influenced? Do you think you are above temptation and peer pressure?

So exactly what business do you have in such places?

In response to this question personally I do not have any intentions of seeking to pick up a short physical encounter in such places as bars or nite clubs. Often friends or associates who invite me to go out to such nite spots want to socialize together as freinds in these places and merly disire to see and meet new people.
I am aware that some people who visit such places as bars or nite clubs have the intentions of trying to pick up a short sexual encounter. However, there are some who to my knowledge are just going out for a nite on the town with friends without the intention for seeking a one nite stand or brief sexual experience.
Why would you go to a place where you will feel bad inside your soul all the time because you see people all around you who are lost spiritually and engaging in behaviour that is unhealthy and missing the mark completely?
Well, in response to this second question I don’t nesscessary feel bad inside my soul all the time when I think about visiting a bar or nite club. Honestly I see some people everyday all around me that are lost spiritually and engaging in behaviour that is unhealthy and missing the mark completely not just in bars or nite clubs alone.
Often my conflict within is my concern if I should substain from seeking to fellowship with friends or associates in bars or nite clubs. Also I am often concerned that by going to such places other christians or even God may view me as a lost soul who is wondering into the belly of the beast associating with sinners.

Often when I go to such places I still very much maintain my christian values and teachings of the church and scriptures concerning drinking in moderation not excess and not engageing in sexually immoral acts.
What is it in there that you want to explore? You seek to have reasonable conversations with your friends about politics, religion, the world situation and how to save it? do you think thats plausible in an environment like that?
Well I don’t have the intentions of going out to bars or nite clubs to explore anything.Majority of the time I attended seeking just to just to socialize with friends to see and meet new people.

Sometimes I don’t engage in conversations with friends about politics, religion, the world situation and how to save it? lol in that type of enviorment.Mainly because those are deep topics that don’t often come up and I persoanlly much rather discuss in depth over dinner or elsewhere. In some places it is possible to chat with freinds ,new people, or others concerning such topics, which I am open to. In other places I know deep conversation is not possible with others. However, in some places it is plausable to engage in conversations.

I do believe it is possible to be influenced in certain situations. We are influnced by society everyday to provoke a certain behavior. However I think it is one’s persoanl responsiblity to substain from negative evil influences.

LOL…I do not think I am above temptation and peer pressure. Temptation and peer presasure being a common experience to EVERY human being. I do believe in the possibilty of being tempted in such places as bars etc., but really temptation to sin is everywhere in ths world not just at bars or nite clubs.Being grounded in scripture and the teachings of the Church is benefical to resisting temptations especially in bars and nite clubs in my opinion.

Well I do not go to bars or nite clubs to work or do business lol majority of the time I am invited by friends to go to a bar or a nite club. My intentions are to simply socialize with my friends. However I was just wondering if going to such places is a sinful practice. If so How? and why? if not How ? and why?

Depends on the reason - if in order to pick up the other sex  , if in order to drink excessively  , if in order to have a moderately fun time with friends (who are worthy of your time) :dancing:

If we’re not talking about nudie bars then here’s my 2 cents. I don’t think there is anything thing inherently wrong wtih goign to a bar or a night club, other than the fact that they overcharge for a drink. 😉 Yes there are temptations there for the weak minded. However, going to a bar doesnt’ mean that you will engage in anything sinful. My husband and I frequent bars regularly (2-3 times a month) becuase the crowd that we hang out wtih is rather young (20’s) and most are single, and that’s what we do for fun. We go for several reasons. The loud and rowdy atmosphere (helps to blow off steam). The girls love to people watch. (just to see what people are wearing or NOT wearing) Ladies you know what i’m talking about i think. You get into a friendly game of pool with the group next to you. You see people that you don’t see on a regular basis and you get a chance to talk to them. We like to go country dancing, and you can’t really do that in your kitchen. You get to talk about everything and nothing. I think it’s mostly for the human interaction. Yes you can drink beer at your house but you can’t drink beer at your house with 50 other people, with all different views and shapes and sizes and colors, etc.
