Is it a sin to continue to date a person who originally introduced themselves as “divorced” but later disclosed that the divorce was technically not yet final; and then further disclosed that the marriage was never recognized by The Church since only she is Catholic and they were married outside The Church?
I don’t want to sin nor be a contributing factor in furthering the estrangement in a very bad marriage of abandonment and abuse by providing emotional comfort and security to one party in a marriage that is only a few months from being dissolved by the civil courts.
Morally, must I personally recognize the validity of a marriage that The Church does not even when both parties want out of it and the administrative paper work is in the process of being finalized?
