  1. In a game called DotA, there is an item called “satanic”. It does lifesteal, but I doubt it relates/does not relate to actual satanism. Is it sinful to use that item?
  2. In the aformentioned DotA, a character is called Doom, or another name which is related to the devil. Is it sinful to play that character?
I would like answers from people who have actually played DotA, any thoughts on this?

(I didn’t get many responses, so I am trying again)

There is some evidence that the hippocampus stores memory regardless of whether it was real experience or not.

Sinning then imo can be done vicariously and is stored in your mind without your knowledge. That seems like a bad idea to me.

(Memories reside in a distributed complex way in the brain)

Interesting. So what you’re saying is that sinning vicariously pushes us to sin in real life?

I think it causes desensitisation, which couldn’t happen if the memories had no lasting effect. Therefore we have eroded some of the barriers to sin which we may have innately, ie natural law.

So would doing these things be sinful in and of themselves or just near occasions of sin?

In my opinion they would represent a near occasion of sin.

There are I’ve no doubt individual differences as ever, some may have lower thresholds than others and so the desensitisation may be equivalent but the resistance to actual sin may be far stronger in one person than another.

Many people would argue that my opinion is wrong, and that people know better than to be affected by simulated evil in video games. I disagree at the risk of sounding like a party pooper, especially since we do not control the extent of effect of vicarious experience because it is within the subconscious realm.

I expect someone else will contribute soon, as for me that’s really all I can say on the subject.
God bless.

One of the characters is named after a demon .
Father chad ripperger mentioned in one of his lectures that their names should never be mentioned because it empowers and brings them to attention , unless they ( the name of demon ) were mentioned in the bible.

With that being said , clicking on him makes him say his name . Casually , gamers might mention his name etc . Not recommended.
