Is it still a mortal sin to eat meat on Lenten Fridays?

When I was a child in the 1950s, it was definitely considered a mortal sin to eat meat on Fridays. About a year ago, the local newspaper had an article about rules for Catholics during Lent. It said that breaking the rules was only a venial sin.

I looked all over the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and I couldn’t find anything at all that said that breaking the law of abstinence during Lent is a mortal sin. Recently, I looked all through a Baltimore Catechism. I couldn’t find anything in there that said it was a mortal sin, either.

If this is still a mortal sin, where is the documentmation for that?
