"Back to the Catechism (No. 2477), that goes on to say:…
  1. “— [becomes guilty] of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them.’”

“So don’t gossip… No, it isn’t that easy to do because gossiping, like almost all sins, just feels so good.”

We are to be careful about passing judgement against us as the same will be passed against us.

Example: One who masturbates 3 times a day is “snitched out” by a person who masturbates once a day. What would Jesus suggest?

Gossip is no friend of God’s. The one who does it less but does it while damaging the others reputation will find themselves in a much more grave state, further from grace. The one who endures will find themselves forgiven.

There are parables in the holy bible about cutting the body part off rather than suffering in Gehenna but also parts warning us of using the serpents tongue. Do your best to make a choice as to what all of that means to you and speak to a priest about how you feel.

Remember, even the Pope takes time for reflection, to be careful in his expressions of bible interpretations. Reflect on your life and see what you think.

We also know what the Bible says about how many times we are to forgive… 7? And, when Judas “snitched out” Jesus, who did he previously make a deal with to do so? What became of him?

Even Jesus said it would have been better if that man had never been born. Now look at a crucifix and what do you see? The defamed? I do. I see it in the crown of thorns and the inscription above him.

It’s like classified information: Don’t give it to anyone who doesn’t need to know.

This may be why some people were reticent about talking about the sins of Cardinal McCarrick et al.

If gossip is telling of another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them and have no good reason to know them , it is sinful .
