Is it time for Vatican III?

The disaster that resulted after Vatican II makes me wonder if a new Vatican council could clean up all of the confusion. It seems to me that “Trent” like council is badly needed. Does anybody here think that the Church has the proper leadership to clean house, unify the flock and get her Catholic identity back?

I would love to see the Holy Father call for another council to re-establish his supreme authority as Vicar of Christ, reassert the Catholic Church as the One True Church, restore respect for the Holy Mass, The Sacraments and Devotions. He has taken a great first step by releasing the 1962 Roman Missal and Traditional Latin Mass. Do you think the Church under Pope Benedict XVI is currently headed in the right direction?
Nope.

The Church is just beginning to become just a touch more stable after VC2. Depending on the contents of VC3, it might well cause too much additional noise in an already noisy Church.

I also don’t think there is a need for VC3. * VC3 would not be a silver bullet that would fix all the ills of the Church.* There are other means for the Pope to invoke reform and he seems to be well versed at doing just that.

**Heavens, no. It is not needed. What is needed is that we implement Vatican II as it was intended to be. Things will settle down in time. We are now returning to a more traditional approach to the Church and liturgy. Give it another 25 years and we will be fine. The Vatican II ‘spirits’ are at retirement age now and will be leaving the Church and their nonsense behind. Keep the faith! 👍 **
Well said.

I predict that whenever the next Ecumenical Council happens that it won’t be titled Vatican III.

Councils are named after the city where they are held. Where else do you think they would hold a council?

It seems the documents were ambiguously written so a liberal interpretation can be allowed. It seems it was greatly anticipated.
It has been my understanding that the documents of Vatican II were drafted with two things in mind. The first being to word them in a way that the vast majority of Bishops could agree with them.

Secondly to restate some of the teachings of the past in language that was less likely to be misunderstood by contemporary readers. Two of them being the meaning of “outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation” and that “all who are saved are saved through the merits of Jesus Christ.” 🙂

I could care less if I never heard of Vatican II again! :hey_bud:

Considering that both John Paul 2 and Benedict 16 have spoken highly of it (and in addition, the need to implement it fully), I am sorry to hear that.
