Is it true in the Philipines

the rules for reception of Communion are canon law and are the same everywhere: you must be baptized, and in a state of sanctifying grace and not otherwise barred from receiving communion. the age for first communion varies and is decided by the bishops of a country. never having been in the Philippines I have no idea what the practice is there for preparing children for first communion (other than the beautifully embroidered white shirts and dresses they wear, which I see on our children here).

we have several Filipino members here, one of whom posts in Tagalog, why not PM one of them?

That anyone can take Communion?
If it is true, than that would explain why a friend of mine who used to fight me about how he hated everything about the Catholic Faith, is now married to a someone from the Philipines and attends a Catholic Church and goes an receives Communion every Sunday with her. He told me that she said that he could go up and receive the Eucharist. Which make me wonder if she is even able to receive the Eucharist herself. I told him that he was not allowed to receive the Eucharist and that he could go and get a Blessing and his reply was, “what’s the big deal if I receive the Eucharist!” I just left it at that because, I wanted to slap his face.

Sadly in the Philippines the catechism is not as strong as we’d wish. So the wife may not be aware of the propriety in receiving the Holy Eucharist.

Inform your friend about the proprietary rules and do this with much love because people get very defensive when called out on their actions. Remember that he may be a faithful Catholic one day. This is an excellent time to catechize both of them.

God bless you in your apostolate!

A friend of mine married a lady from the Philopines(sp?). And she sadi anyone could take it that went to her Church (guests included).

When people who have not even been Baptised into the Catholic Faith and have not even received the Sacraments, but are still allowed to receive the Eucharist, don’t any of you guys feel robbed of your Faith and everything that the Catholic Church stands for? When I hear people taking the Eucharist with not receiveing any of the Sacraments, I feel they are robbing me of everything that I believe in. There is a passege where it talks about people jumping over the fence to get in while the rest stand in line. If any one can find which one I’m talking about help me because I don’t have a Bible on hand with me and i’m drawing a blank right now.

The Law is that only Catholics can recieve communion. Here in the Philippines however you cannot identify catholics from non catholics because of population of people that goes to church.

Cathechism i think is not the primary goal of church in here. i dont know why. And i hope and pray that cathechism will be thaught in every parish here.

that just tells you that lots of so-called Catholics or would-be Catholics, whatever their country of origin, do not know, understand or care about true teaching on the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and the danger of receiving unworthily, which Paul warns us about. Your friend is taking his teaching from his wife, who certainly does not sound well-schooled in the faith, rather than from the Church herself. so what else is new?

Right.

It takes an effort from the Church AND the Christian to be educated in God’s law.

I used to say I was poorly catechised, but looking back I realize they made a bigger effort to educate me than I did to educate myself.

I am sorry for blaming the Church.
