Is it true that sacramentals will only work when used by the faithful?

Superstitious depends on your attitude.
I would think the issue is more to do with gullibility given that none of the above alleged “favours” attributed are really provable nor what was promised.

There can only be spititual benefit in wearing a medal to increase devotion to God. But then that can be aided in other ways also without a medal.

Wearing it as a sure fire way to obtain “candy” from heaven sounds like motivation and understanding in need of purifying to me.

The possessed reacted violently when holy water is sprinkled over them. Is holy water a charmed object?

I think you may have been watching too many “Catholic” horror movies if you think it is intrinsic to the holy water itself - as if charmed.

Exorcists also say that the possessed react violently to the sight of the Crucifix, St. Benedict medals, prayers of the faithful, etc.

What is being suggested is that demons hate every sign of holiness and every pious act. These are a threat to their efforts on earth because demons can only possess the willing. The willing can become strengthened in their resistance through these reminders and pious acts.

Demons hate everything that is good and holy. Of course they hate holy water. What is holy water? It is the means of and a reminder of our baptism and reception of the Holy Spirit.

From what I’ve read from exorcists they say that in order to be possessed you must be open or have been open to it. At the same time, demons can harass anyone willing or not. Harassment and possession are not the same thing.

Again, this is what I have read. If I have the wrong understanding I’d love to have it corrected. If you have a source that would be very helpful. Thanks.

You have gone off topic. Please start your own thread or put a bit of time into Google research instead of reading 2nd or 3rd hand Catholic “teaching”.

If you didn’t have a source or if you didn’t wish to be helpful you could have just said so as opposed to being rude about it.

The Catholic Answers apostolate is all about teaching and learning and asking questions in order to find the answers. Shouting “WRONG” and then refusing to help is in opposition to the spirit of this place.

???
It likely going to be a debated topic.
Hence the advice to start a new thread.
God bless.

Do Protestants have sacramentals? I suggest they do, in a way. A particular copy of the Bible might be regarded with significant reverence, though this may be fading as so many informal versions come on the market. The Holy Land itself is a kind of sacramental, as so many American Evangelicals travel there, as part of their church. This goes way beyond tourism.
