Is it true that some women can hear confessions and give absolution?

A friend recently received the sacrament of Pennance from a woman visiting in a Catholic hospital. Are females now able to minister this sacrament, hear confessions and give albsolution?
 
Hi,

Only a validly ordained priest can hear Confessions and give absolution. And only men are allowed to be ordained to the priesthood in the Catholic Church.
