Not only NOT “must,” but I’ve never heard of this before.

No. Period. What the Church does teach is that we can alleviate some of the sufferings of the souls in purgatory by our prayers and acts of penance, etc. But only Christ could bear the cost of our sins since the justice of God demands an eternal restitution that only a divine person could offer. That’s why the Son of God became the son of man.

You have received responses on indulgences, which I think is what this is about, but there is another possiblity:

This passage seems to indicate that a spouse can be sanctified through the marraige.
 
maybe Maxirad is talking about victim souls (i only know of saints) or redemptive suffering.

when we pray the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, we say, “… I wish to make reparation for all the sins of the world…”

also the morning offering prayer we say, “… I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin…”
