Is it true you can get the pope's zuchetto?

Someone told me that if you want a nice souvenier when seeing the pope, you can bring a new white zuchetto and he will trade his for yours. Is this true?

I heard this on the Fisheaters website. I don’t know if it is true. Wouldn’t it be embarassing to try and find out it wasn’t true?
 
this sounds like one of those fake bits of advice to tourists. We have them here in England: eg :
Be sure to try out the Shouting Gallery in St Paul’s Cathedral;
or
London taxi drivers are greatly insulted if you give them a tip: always give them the exact change;
or my favourite:
taxi drivers are only too happy to shine your shoes while waiting in traffic jams.Please feel free to use this service.😃
 
I just don’t see it working out from a logistics point of view. He’d be spending all his time changing hats.
 
I suspect there is some truth to this (see photo and reference), but keep in mind: If you should try this, someone else at the same event may have also done so only moments before you – You could receive a merely “lightly used” zucchetto. 😛

(Not that I would turn it down, seeing as who had lightly used it)

It’s true. I have a friend who has a Zuchetto from Benedict.

He said that the day after he got it, he saw like 30 people all trying it and Papa just brushed them off.
