Is it wrong take free stuff when you have no intention of buying

Here is my question. A couple of years ago my wife and I were in Las Vegas and if you are a married couple (or look like one) you get invited to all kinds of time share presentations. We got about $100 worth of stuff (show tickets and buffet passes) for attending one. Now, when we went, I knew that there was a 99.9% chance we wouldn’t buy it. Now my question is, did I sin by going to this presentation?

You know the saying ‘no such thing as a free lunch’? That ‘free’ stuff is actually payment for your time in attending the presentations. And if they were like most such presentations you earned every penny. Don’t feel guilty.

Free stuff is offered with the full understanding that you may or may not be open to the presentation, and that you, once you have heard it, may or may not change your mind. If it is offered, you are free to take it. The salespeople are betting that they can overcome your objections. If they can’t, so be it. You fulfilled your part of the bargain by listening.

I’m guessing you “spent” about 2 - 3 hours of your time attending the presentation (and got brow-beaten to “sign here”)??

My time is billable (2-hour MINIMUM) at $95/hr., and my time on vacation… well you don’t want to know the price… IMO you are the one that got taken advantage of.

OK, not taken advantage of… you probably got to see a show you’d normally not fork over $$$ to see - but it cost you several precious hours of vacation time.

(Those outfits get “gimme’s” from the hotels. It costs them next to nothing for supposed “free” tickets to shows. The Hotel/Casino’s KNOW they’ll make it ($$) back on the floor. The seats they give away are set aside in blocks that are factored in to usually being un-sold seats… they really lose nothing. Just getting you into the building makes them money)

To think you’re taking advantage of these folks is a little naive. They are not dummies and using a little guilt actually helps them to sell. If you have the gumption to set through these sessions and not buy, you have earned anything they care to give you many times over.
