Is it wrong to admire somebody that was anti-Catholic?

I really like John Adams and Otto von Bismarck, however both were bigoted against Catholics. Although I repudiate their opposition to my faith, I do admire their accomplishments. Do you think I’m doing a disfavor to the Church by liking famous anti-Catholics? After all, nobody is perfect.
 
Your private admiration for these people’s achievements as persons isn’t wrong. They are God’s creatures and loved by Him. As for their anti-Catholic beliefs, perhaps you might pray for anyone adversely affected by their antagonism to Catholicism, and also pray for their souls, because there is no time with God and your prayers may benefit their souls at death. Well I’m not a fan of John Adams, because of his puritanical views, which nearly destroyed the achievements Ben Franklin made in negotiations with the French. Without the help of the French, its doubtful that the revolutionary war could’ve been won.

However, you still have to admire the fact that he risk everything, for this nation. Had the British caught him, he would’ve been hung.

I wonder what makes me admire someone who has nothing to do with Jesus, then I realize how far I am from Him. I guess when you admire human accomplishments you are letting aside what is really important and worthy of admiration.
 
I personally find it hard to admire someone whom I know was explicitly anti-Catholic, but there are a number of people whose good qualities I admired long before I knew this about them.

My signature is and has always been a C.S. Lewis quote. He was Anglican and resisted conversion to Catholicism until the day he died. Does this make me admire him any less? Not one smidgen. Of course, I don’t think anyone would call him “anti-Catholic,” but you see my point. He will always be one of my heroes.

All who have achieved something great have qualities that we can admire. Be it perseverence, or great faith, or focus, or what have you. These are all God-given gifts, even if they remain uncompleted by the fullness of the Truth. Even the major world religions have a piece of the Truth to offer, which ought to be valued simply for being Truth.

Praise God for the good He has shown through His creation, and pray for the corrupted parts. Then there is balance.
 
Almost all of us this side of heaven are a mixture of good and bad things.
