Is it wrong to change parishes?

My husband and I have been at our current parish for almost ten years, it’s where we met, were married, and where our two girls were baptized. However, the culture of the parish is often less than orthodox. Support for ordaining women, touting contraception during an offical parish class, and even the pastor refusing to support pro-life activites, are just a few of the things we’ve run into. Is it wrong to leave our parish for another parish across town?

No. You are free to register at any Catholic parish that is recognized by the local Catholic diocese to be a Catholic parish in good standing. I recommend that you take care not to adopt a “church shopper” mentality – i.e., continually switching parishes in order to find The Perfect Parish – but it is otherwise fine to switch parishes when just reasons make it necessary to do so.
